1
  08.00 AM : Pick-up from Kottayam
In the morning our driver will pick you from your hotel / home at Kottayam Railway station start for an ½ hours drive to Kottayam for break fast from the renowned Aryaas Resturant in central jn! This restaurant is simple and unpretentious -- as they say on their website, they have a south Indian ambiance, which means loud and friendly. Their specialty isn't their decor but the "traditional mouth watering dishes from our grandmother's heart". Apart from masala dosai, the highlight is their special blend of coconut chutney and vada.

  09.00 AM : Visit of Thirunakkara Temple
A popular Hindu shrine and great epitome of Kerala style of architecture, Thirunakkara Mahadev Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple was established in 16th century by the king of Thekkumkur. The place is also adorned with several beautiful murals showcasing the Hindu themes. A festival of Aaraattu celebrated for 10 days witness several cultural performances of various art forms like Kathakali, Velakali and Mayilattom performed by professionals. The festival attracts devotees and tourists in large number to the temple 10.00 AM : Visit St Mary’s Syrian Orthodox Church(Cheriapalli) Built in 1579 by Thekkumkoor Maharajah, St. Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Church, popularly known as Kottayam Cheriapalli, displays outstanding architecture which is a blend of Kerala and Portuguese styles. The walls are adorned with beautiful murals made in oriental and western styles on biblical and non-biblical themes. We can see the influence of Portuguese architecture on side doors. Main entrance of church with unique sculpture of St.mary on the top middle is the style used for this construction was Baroque, the building style of Baroque era, begun in late 16th-century Italy.

  11.00 AM : Visit of Thazhathangady Juma
Thazhathangady Juma Masjid or Taj Juma Masjid as it is popularly known as is a beautiful structure situated on the banks of River Meenachil. The shrine is said to have been established by the members of Jama-Athe 1059 and was completed in year 1064 and is oldest mosque in india. The mosque building is famous for its charming wood carvings and structure an exquisitely carved wooden gabled roof, a traditional bathing area and lovely latticed windows making it resemble a temple or a king's palace. Only men are allowed here. Once served as a home to Muslims who came from different parts of Kerala, the residents followed Hanafi tradition back in 1047 under the leadership of Kottayam Sethu Masjid.

  12.00 AM : Visit of Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary
If you are a bird enthusiast, visit the sanctuary between June and August, the breeding season of resident wetland birds such as Indian Darter, Little cormorant, different species of egrets and herons, white ibis, several species of kingfishers, etc. Between the months of November and May, the bushes and woods of the sanctuary play host to some rare migratory birds. The Vembanad lake body attracts waterfowl like pin-tailed duck, garganey teal, spot-billed duck, birds of prey like osprey, marsh harrier, steppe eagle, etc Bird lovers can also take a boat trip to the nearby Kaipuzha Muttu, Pathiramanal, Narakathara, Thollayiram Kayal and Poothapandi Kayal to watch local birdlife and migrants which could easily be more than a hundred species.

  01.00 PM : Lunch At Toddy Shop at Kumarakom
After having spent memorable time with historical, cultural and spiritual spheres we take you to a nearby Traditional Toddy shop or Kallu Shap. Can also taste the coconut brew, Toddy is the indigenous Kerala beverage extracted from the inflorescence of the coconut tree. One cannot talk about a toddy shop without mentioning the lip-smacking food there. The well-flavoured curries are known for their tanginess and spiciness, probably to appeal to the customers in various states of inebriation. Rice, mashed tapioca and fish curry, crab curry, mussels fry, Pearl Spot baked in banana leaf, frog leg curry, duck roast, spicy pickles and various delicious meat preparations are available in most of the toddy shops. A hot, spicy dish in combination with the sweet or sour brew is a great combination.

  02.30 PM : Vaikom Mahadeva temple visit
Stop over at Thaneermukkam bud for refreshing and head to Vaikom Mahadeva temple, situated on the banks of the Vembanad Lake at Vaikom (Vaikkom), with its fascinating Kerala style temple architecture is a spectacle in itself. The temple is known as Dakshinakasi of the south. (Kasi is considered the most holy of Hindu pilgrim centres, which is in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh). But come December the temple and its surroundings will be all the more gorgeous, for it is the time of Vaikathashtami - the twelve-day annual festival. Dance recitals, Kathakali performances, music concerts, pageantry… the festival will truly give a rich cultural fare for visitors of all age groups. The final day of the festival is marked by a grand procession in which the thidambu (replica of the presiding deity) would be carried on elephant back, joined by processions from nearby temples.

  04.00 PM : Ettumanoor Mahadeva temple

  06.00 PM : Drive back to Kottayam
After finishing the cultural tour of Kottayam we drive back to destination where you will be dropped off at your hotel/home
